Product Specifications
THE CLAMP-ON PROP PROTECTOR
For both Metric and Imperial Shaft sizes
The Prop Protector is NOT designed to be used with outboard engines, stern drive engines or Saildrives.
Supplied as an assembly that is split into two halves along the longitudinal axis so that it can be installed on the shaft without removing the propeller. It is clamped onto the shaft by two Allen screws and is also fixed by a set screw that locates into a small drill dimple made in the shaft.
Standard (Blade Diameter - 80 mm, 85 mm, 95 mm) - The thickness of these units is 17 mm. A gap of 23 mm is sufficient; this includes 6 mm of space for water to circulate to the shaft bearing. This type is available for shafts of 20 mm (3/4") dia. up to 40 mm (1 5/8").
Medium (Blade diameter - 105 mm) - The thickness of these units is 17 mm. A gap of 23 mm is sufficient; this includes 6 mm of space for water to circulate to the shaft bearing. This type is available for shafts of 1 3/4" - 2 1/2" and 45 mm - 60 mm.
Large (Blade diameter - 116 mm) - The thickness of these units is 22 mm. A gap of 32 m is sufficient; this includes 10 mm of space for water to circulate to the shaft bearing. This type type is available for shafts of 2 1/4" & 2 1/2" and 55 mm & 60 mm.
Special (Blade diameter 127 mm) - For vessels with extra-large stern bearings and big propeller hubs. The thickness of these units is 17 mm. A gap of 23 mm is sufficient; this includes 6 mm of space for water to circulate to the shaft bearing This type is available for shafts of 1 3/4" & 2" and 45 mm & 50 mm.
Extra Large (Blade diameter 150 mm) - Manufactured and fitted as the Medium, these large cutters have a thickness of 30 mm. A gap of 32 mm is sufficient; this includes 10 mm of space for water to circulate to the shaft bearing. This type is available for shafts of 1 3/4" - 2 1/2" and 45 mm - 60 mm.
Extra Large (Blade diameter 190 mm) - For vessels that are built with large struts or stern bearings. They are fitted in the same way as other Clamp-On units and have a thickness of 33 mm. A gap of 45 mm is sufficient; this includes 12 m of space for water to circulate to the shaft bearing. This type is available for shafts of 2 3/4" -4" and 65 mm - 100 mm.
Cutters in the range 65 mm (2 3/4") to 130 mm (5") are for use on large vessels such as trawlers, fishing boats, harbour patrol boats, luxury yachts and cruisers. Not all cutters in this range are held in stock.
ALL CUTTERS ARE SUPPLIED WITH SELF LOCKING FASTENERS AS STANDARD.
THE SLIDE-ON PROP PROTECTOR
For both Metric and Imperial Shaft sizes
The Prop Protector is NOT designed to be used with outboard engines, stern drive engines or Saildrives.
Manufactured in one piece with a width of only 12 mm, it is designed for installations where the gap between the propeller and the shaft bearing is small.
A gap of 18 mm is sufficient; this includes 6 mm of space for water to circulate to the shaft bearing. This type is available for shafts of 20 mm (3/4") dia. up to 50 mm (2 "). It simply slides onto the shaft after the propeller has been removed and is secured with a set screw that locates into a small drill dimple made in the shaft.
The slide on cutter has 3 different blade diameters.
80mm diameter - Manufactured for shaft diameters from 3/4" to 1 1/4" and 20 mm to 30 mm.
100mm diameter - Manufactured for shaft diameters from 1 1/4" to 1 5/8'' and 30 mm to 40 mm.
120mm diameter - Manufactured for shaft diameters from 1 3/4" to 2'' and 45 mm to 55 mm.
PROP SHIELD
Available in 175g and 375g tubs
Propshield is a marine product for the private and commercial boat owner alike. It is a lanolin based antifouling grease and can be used to prevent and limit both barnacles and electrolysis. It is compatible with all types of stern gear and various materials from bronze propellers to painted surfaces found on outboard legs.
Benefits of Prop Shield:
-
Eradicates Barnacle attraction.
During our research we have been amazed at the effects of minimising the growth of barnacles. In many cases the barnacles are completely eradicated and even in the most foul of waters only a few barnacles are able to stay attached to propellers.
-
Stops / significantly reduces the effect of electrolysis
Propshield forms a barrier between the propeller surface and the water so insulates the metal or painted surface. If you have suffered from electrolysis (green deposits on bronze blades) then you will notice that this either completely disappears or is at the very least minimised in extreme cases.
-
Saves Fuel due to cleaner propellers
You will save a significant amount of fuel if your props are clean. Slow speeds, strained engines, damaged bearings, delayed shipments, missed arrival dates, etc are just a few of the results of barnacle and hard growth encrusted propellers. Considering the cost of fuel this represents fantastic savings compared to the relatively low cost of the product itself.
-
Maintains speed of vessel
Using Propshield maintains the optimum speed of your vessel as the hydrodynamics of the propeller blades are maintained. Any fouling on your props means you will lose speed or use more fuel maintaining the same speed.
-
Easy to apply
Quick and simple two coat application with a powerful bonding process. Suitable for the DIY enthusiast
-
Stops corrosion on outdrive legs (can be applied over paint)
On smaller vessels corrosion on outdrive legs can be devastating and can ruin aluminium castings in a few months so an application of Propshield will prevent this damage.
-
Will not dissolve in water, up to 18 month active lifespan
Propshield will gradually degenerate but it takes a considerable amount of time before it becomes ineffective, in some instances up to 18 months.
-
Penetrates metal up to a tenth of a millimetre
Propshield penetrates the surface of the metal so forming an invisible barrier which remains active and deters barnacle attraction and hard growth.
-
Can be applied to all types of stern gear
This product is specifically aimed at propeller application however it is suitable for all types of stern gear from props to P and A brackets and from painted outdrive legs to rudders as well as shafts, trim tabs etc.
-
Compatible with stainless steel, bronze, aluminium etc
This product can be used on any metal surface, it can even be used on painted surfaces and even some composite surfaces (please contact us to find out what composite materials are compatible with Propshield).
-
Renewable resources
Propshield Propeller Antifouling is eco-friendly and biodegradable. Propshield is not based on oil or any other hydrocarbon like many other products are. (See best practice notes in the instruction guidelines included with your purchase)
